Should we describe Obama as Americas first black President despite his mixed European and African ethnicity?

I too have noted that many in the press are calling Obama the first African-American or first “black” President and my reaction to them is the same as I am reacting to this question- With no offense meant towards the person asking this question, Why does it matter? Obama is the person that the majority of voters in this country, have elected to be president, from January-2009, and until at least, Jan-2013. Though some people might tell you otherwise, color or race have nothing to do with Obama’s ability to govern and/or lead this country. Racism and stereotypes go out the door when we look at Obama and all people as individual persons, rather than a label by gender, by color, by race, by religion, by ethnicity, etc. Let’s not get hung up on labels because we all perceive those labels and their meanings, differently.

What is your question?
