Sometimes when plotting Fronts I see a front or trough that crosses through a huge swath of the map. What is causing this?
The cause of this is a badly-formatted bulletin or one containing errors. This particular type of bulletin is susceptible to such problems as it uses a shorthand type of format to compress the contents. In rare cases, such problems may be caused by having multiple instances of a frontal bulletin (though this is usually easily spotted as numerous fronts appear elsewhere on the map). We will be trying to improve the reliability of this function in upcoming versions of Digital Atmosphere, both in terms of anticipating unusual formatting problems and discarding bad data. But when I switch to a stationary front, it leaves a grey line not linked to where the stationary front begins. Somehow the grey line detaches from the cold front and ruins the chart.
