Since January 1st 2002 , the monetary currency in Spain is the Euro, the same currency implemented in the Eurozone which currently consists of 15 states (Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain). Between 1869 and 2002 the Spanish currency was the peseta.
