The Mozarabic Rite, a Clue to the Shroud of Turin?
In the 6th century, in the Visigothic Kingdom of Spain, there was a formula for worship known as the Mozarabic Rite. This rite is sometimes called the Toledan Rite for the city, Toledo, where it is still used in a modified form. It is also sometimes called the Isidorian Rite because some scholars think it was influenced by St. Isidore of Seville. In form and content it is very close to ancient Celtic and Gallican rites and a 4th century rite used in Milan. One element of the rite was the illatio (Præfatio). There were numerous illationes (proper prefaces) for special days.
