ANSWER The automatic roof tools allow you to create a wide range of roof designs. By default, the program will generate a roof plane over the top of each exterior wall in your plan that is used to define a room. The result is a hip roof with the pitch specified in the Build Roof dialog. If you want some other condition over a particular wall – such as a gable instead of a roof plane, a different pitch, or a second, upper pitch – you can specify it on the Roof tab of the Wall Specification dialog. For examples of different roof configurations, you can browse through the Sample Plans that are included with the program and are located in the Samples folder in the program’s installation directory. MORE INFORMATION A variety of how-to articles about roof design are available in this database, including: How to automatically build the basic roof styles, How to build an “L” shaped structure with full gable ends and How to create a saltbox roof.
