Thrifty Thursday: Is That Freebie Worth the Price?

If I hadn’t experienced similar offers before, I might have missed the part that said that after three months, I’d be automatically charged for a year’s membership in the club. To avoid that charge on my bill, I would have to cancel during the free trial membership. If I failed to cancel, then I would have an automatically renewing membership in the travel club, and I would have to call to cancel that membership when it came up for renewal. I declined the offer. A three-month freebie is not worth having one more thing to remember. My husband and I already belong to one such group. We haven’t used it in several years, but we kept forgetting to cancel when the annual renewal date rolled around. This year we remembered and made the phone call, but the representative promised my husband coupons for $10
