URGENT! What are peat bogs?

0

Bogs form in an area with plentiful rainfall, like Wales. They are permanent wetlands mostly found in the higher latitudes so are common in Sweden, Russia, Canada, & Alaska. The North American bogs are called muskeg. Their water comes as snow and rain. If the bogs is dominated by any of the species of Sphagnum moss it is a peat bog. Under ground the decay of the peat is anaerobic (airless) so it is slow and highly organic layers build up as a result of the slow decay rate. The moss grows on top of the older decaying moss. Bogs can form in the bottom of a valley that collects and retains water. Alternately a bog might form in flat open lands like the tundra that thaws and remains saturated during the growing season. Here the bog forms a blanket covering the landscape or a blanket bog. Fens receive water from more than rainfall so do not become as acidic over time. Bogs are very stagnant, with very acidic waters. Despite the high organic content the acidity locks the nutrients up making
