Was Semiramis (the Mother & wife of Nimrod) the first Easter egg?
1) Was Semiramis (the Mother & wife of Nimrod) the first Easter egg? If so, I imagine she’d be pretty rotten by now. However, that seems unlikely: both the term “Easter” and the creation of “Easter eggs” (as we know them in the West) appear to be Germanic in origin. Orthodox Christians have interestingly different Easter eggs – always died red, quite a significant difference in practice from the West that suggests very strongly that the Easter Egg is NOT an adoption from any pre-Christian mythical source. Linguists are in agreement that the word “Easter” comes from “Eostre” – NOT from “Ishtar”. Note, particularly, the identity of Easter in non-Germanic languages as “passover” (or some variant) rather than some variant of “Eostre” or “Ishtar”. Only in Germanic languages do we find “Easter” or some variant – and not even in most Germanic languages (most of which likewise use a variant of “passover”! Your source of information is invalid, probably based on a purely conjectural supposition
