What activities do consumers participate in?
At HeartShare, we stress the importance of being active participants in one’s community. Program participants are involved in jobs and activities that are of interest to them, whether it is stocking shelves at a local deli, serving lunch at a senior center, going to a nursery to choose plants for a community garden, or doing maintenance at a local movie theater. These activities help individuals take the next step towards greater independence. Consumers also take part in recreational activities, such as trips to museums, sporting events, the movies, bowling, and a variety of cultural experiences. A variety of center-based activities supplement those activities that take place in the community.
