What and where is the Red Rec?
The Red Rec is short for the “Red Recreation Ground”. Recreation grounds can be anything from a bit of tarmac with a children’s play area (a few swings, roundabout, helter skelter, etc) through to huge grassed areas where football (soccer) pitches are marked out. In the case of the Weatherfield Red Rec, the ‘Red’ comes from the surface which is either red shale or crushed bricks packed down very tightly – but there is also a large grassed and woodland park area.
