Teens often are coerced (taken advantage of) more than older adult women who place children. Any teen needs to know their rights. Open adoption isn’t legally enforceable, and agencies don’t necessarily tell the truth. Know that if you persue adoption, that you have many rights, including asking the adoptive parents to take a lie detector test with you present, at their expense, to know that they will or won’t honor open adoption. Know that you have every right to meet the adoptive parents, visit their home, meet their extended family, and that you have the right to change your mind any time before the birth of the child.
