What are good family board/card games ages 8 and up for 2 or more players?

There are a lot of good games out there for families, but here are some of my personal favorites off of the beaten path (of the Monopoly/Clue/Cranium bunch): • Settlers of Catan is a pretty popular game and for good reason. It includes many fun game dynamics: strategy, luck, and negotiation. It plays pretty quickly after learning the rules and scales well for anywhere between 2 to 4 players. • Transamerica is a simple train-track building game where players must balance helping themselves and joining the group. Easy-to-learn but always fun to play. • Mystery Rummy has a whole series of card games based off of popular traditional rummy games, with a thematic twist and some additional game elements. My personal favorite in the series is the first one (Jack the Ripper) For more than the usual 2-4 player group, here are a few good party games: • Time’s Up is a great game for slightly more active players, as it requires a little bit of celebrity knowledge but more so the willingness to act
