What are job market trends for fashion design jobs?
The outlook for fashion design jobs is not nearly as strong as that for jobs in many other industries. Between 2008 and 2018, the job market is expected to grow by only about 1 percent. This is much lower than the average trend for all other occupations. If you are interested in becoming a fashion designer, this does not necessarily mean that you will not be able to get a job. You will just have to plan on competing with the other job seekers more than you would with a job in another field. Some designers will retire or change professions, and there will be some openings.
