What are opiate narcotics?
The opiate class of narcotics include morphine, codeine, and heroin. Synthetic opiates are hydrocodone, hydromorphone (Dilaudid), oxycodone (Percodan), meperidine (Demerol) and propoxyphene (Darvon, Darvocet) and methadone which is a synthetic opiate used for heroin detoxification. These drugs are used medicinally to relieve pain, but also have a high potential for abuse. Opiates tend to relax the user. A user will feel an immediate rush when the opiates are injected or smoked (heroin), but may soon experience other unpleasant side effects including restlessness, nausea, and vomiting.
