What are some causes of constipation?
Constipation is common in Parkinsons because Parkinsons causes bowel action to slow down. However, bowel action varies from person to person. Therefore, a certain frequency of bowel action may be normal for one person but may be considered as constipation for another person. Lack of exercise and proper diet are major factors contributing to constipation. Intake of foods deficient in bulk and fiber and also low intake of fluids can contribute to constipation. Other possible causes include depression and medications. Pain medications that contain codeine may result in constipation. Some anti-Parkinsons drugs may also play a role in causing constipation.
