There are several simple steps a homeowner can take to save money on energy bills every month.  First, start by caulking all gaps and cracks around doors and windows.  Check the bottoms of all entrance doors to ensure the rubber piece is solid and in good shape.  Look at the  weather stripping around doors, if it is old and falling apart, replace it.  Check to see if you have enough insulation in your attic.  If you are unsure, contact a reputable General Contractor for advice.  Insulate the bane board in your basement or under your house.  Inject foam sealer around plumbing that leads into, or out of your home.  This foam injection also applies for cable openings and electrical.  Be sure the electrical lines are not frayed or bared. If they are, do not do the foam injection.   Make sure to change air/furnace filters on a regular basis.  Keep your thermostat set at seventy degrees.  Turn off lights in rooms that are not occupied.  You can also cover your windows in energy saving film.  Some of these products even qualify for the tax deduction.  Last, but not least, unplug electrical appliances or items that are not currently being used.  While they are plugged in they still pull electricity.
