What are some safety tips I should remember when I use an ATM?
• Know your PIN. Never write your PIN on your card or on a piece of paper in your wallet. Memorize the number and destroy any written reference. Don’t select a PIN that is easily identified, such as a birth or anniversary date. • Bring a friend. Have another person go with you when you make your transaction. • Stay alert. Be aware of what’s going on around you. If a person or vehicle in the parking lot looks suspicious, drive off and return later. • Secure your vehicle. If you are using a drive-up ATM, make sure all car doors are locked and windows are rolled up, except the one window you are using. • Park close to the ATM machine. Minimize the distance you need to walk. At night, keep your keys in you hand for quick re-entry into your car. Don’t leave your car unlocked or the engine running when you get out to use an ATM. • Be prepared. Before you reach an ATM, have your card out and ready to use.
