What are some special risk factor for early breast cancer in African American and Korean women?
African-American women are less likely to develop breast cancer than Caucasian women; however, they are very slightly more likely to die from it. The risk for African-American and Caucasian women is virtually identical through the 20s and early 30s, and begins to spread to a much greater risk for Caucasian women from the mid-40s on. I couldn’t find information for Korean women specifically, but did find a grouping for Asian/Pacific Islander ethnicity. This group has a lower risk of breast cancer than Caucasian and African-American women. They also have a lower mortality rate. Risk factors are more dependent upon personal and family history, bone density, breast density, age at first pregnancy, no full-term pregnancies, age at first menarche, hormonal contraceptive use, and hormone replacement therapy.
