The applications will fall into three categories. Some of these are beginning to appear in the marketplace from smaller start-up companies; however, industry giants such as Oracle and Microsoft will begin to deploy services such as: • Native real-time communication applications. Expect that multi-point desktop video, audio, whiteboard, application sharing will be built into leading software systems. • Single point of management for communications. Expect that all communication methods, including e-mail and voice mail, will be accessible and transformed one to another as desired. • Extended reach of communications. Through carrier-supported gateways, corporate networks will include cellular, WiFi, and residential end-points in all of these services.
