What are the bacterial standards for a swimming pool or spa?
• The Maricopa County Environmental Health Code Chapter VI, Section 2, Regulation 3 requires that not more than 15 percent (15%) of the water samples collected from a pool shall: • Contain more than 200 bacteria per milliliter as determined by the standard (35°C [95ºF]) agar plate count, or • Show a confirmed positive test for coliform organisms in any of the five (5) – ten (10) milliliter portions of a sample or more than one (1) coliform organism per 50 milliliters when the membrane filter test is used.
