What are the benefits of goin to a 2yr college before entering a 4 year college?

You should go to a 4 year college. The enviroment is better and you really have a chance to get involved on campus. Transfering is a little rough, don’t do it unless you have to. There are only 2 reasons to go to a community college with plans on transfering to a 4 year: 1) Money 2) A chance to bring up a low high school GPA Your GPA and there is a good chance that you could get some academic financial aid. You can always apply to 4 year schools and if you don’t get in where you want or can’t afford it apply to community college. College applications are due in the fall/winter of your senior year but community colleges will accept students in the spring and summer.

With your GPA you could get into a very good 4 year college. The only advantage for you to attend a Community College is that you save money by going to a community college. Money is a very important issue. Unless you’re rich! Some really good students attend their local community college because they want to stay at or near home rather than move away. That’s something very personal. If you’ve found a good university that has accepted you and you really like the place and want to go, then go. Buckle-up and study hard. You’ll be very successful. I have no doubts. Stop worrying. Good Luck.

Cost is really the only reason. It is A LOT cheaper. When I transferred to a 4 year school they had a chart showing how much most students GPA dropped. It was something like from a 3.5 to under a 2.5 their first year at the 4 year school. For me community college was just an extension from high school. You really do have to work a lot harder at a 4 year university. But in the end it doesn’t make a difference as long as you are prepared for it. You get the same degree from there that the person who spent all 4 years there got. Also, what worked as a benefit for me, was that they cleaned my GPA slate. I slacked off in CC and transferred in with like a 2.75. But I’m hoping to graduate from here with a 4.0 or at least very close.

Going to a 2-year college will save you a lot on tuition costs. You can also get the prerequisites out of the way so once you go to your 4-year college after you can take the classes intended for your major. The main reason why people prefer going to a 2-year college is so they can sign up for an agreement to a 4-year college of their choice (excluding ivies). If you get rejected to your dream school from high school, you have another try at the same school when your in community college. The cons however are that you are going to miss your first two years dorming. Other than that, the benefits outweigh the cons so going to a community college might be a good thing!

It costs less to attend a 2 year college than a 4 year college.
