JNDI stands for Java Naming and Directory Interface. It provides a unified interface to multiple naming and directory services in the enterprise. It has a Service Provider Interface for different Naming and directory service vendors to conform to. Currently, there are available different SPI modules for Netscape LDAP server, Novell NDS, WebLogic Tengah etc. By supporting JNDI, it allows us to have portable access to these naming and directory services and other future SPI providers. However, the JNDI adaptor is only certified for Netscape LDAP server.
