What are the best violin strings?
Depends on your instrument. Strings that sound great on one violin don’t necessarily sound good on another. Perlon core strings like Thomastik Dominants tend to give a warmer, darker tone than steel rope core strings, which are usually brighter and clearer sounding, compared to solid steel core strings which are brighter and more brilliant sounding than even steel rope core. If your violin naturally tends to have a dark sound, you might find perlon core strings give too dark and muddy a sound, and you might get a better tone from steel rope core strings like D’Addario Helicores, or solid steel core strings like Super Sensitives. OTOH, if your fiddle naturally has a bright tone, perlon core strings like Thomastik Dominants will help mellow out the sound and give it some warmth. So its really a matter of finding strings that work best for your violin and your preferred sound.
