What are the challenges the police face in combating terror, curbing crime and tackling political interference?
We face numerous challenges in tackling crime, terrorism and traffic-related problems, and we are developing expertise to counter them. Recently, we foiled attempts by Naxalites to gain a foothold in several southern districts like Theni, Dindigul and Dharmapuri. This requires eternal vigilance. Secondly, we have to monitor law-related issues in our neighbouring states. Recent threat perceptions along coastlines have prompted us to monitor them and set up marine police stations near fishing hamlets. What are the measures being taken to counter these challenges? We are increasing the strength of state police force and also that of our commandos. We are also upgrading our training facilities. Our commandos are well trained, but they need to be further equipped to meet any challenges. The Special Task force is being trained to counter challenges from anti-social forces.
