Desired conditions include: • At least 2 tree canopy layers; • At least 24″ dbh in dominant and co-dominant trees; • A number of trees greater than 45″dbh, and the retention of all live trees greater than or equal to 30″ dbh; • 40 to 70% canopy cover, depending on plot location; • Higher than average levels of snags (4 per acre) and down woody material ( 10 to 20 tons per acre); • Retain at least 40% of exisiting basal area; • Retain clusters/groups of trees (5 to 7 trees) in the 20 to 30 size class – 1 to 2 clusters per acre; and • Riparian zones of 25′ to 100′ depending on stream classification.
