What are the differences between mental retardation and autism?
Mental retardation is characterized by a lower than average measure of intellectual function (IQ below 70) along with decreased living skills for one’s age, in at least two areas of adaptive function. Most children diagnosed with autism also have mental retardation, but the majority of children with mental retardation do not have autistic disorder.
