The different methods of modification are as follows: • Hard Wire: • These players require wires to be soldered across the circuit boards to bypass the regional coding, this type of modification was very common on 1st generation machines • Chip Modification: • These players require additional or replacement chips to be soldered onto the circuit board, this type of modification is very common on older machines. • Software Download Via PC or External Tool: • These players require replacement software to be downloaded into the machine via a PC connection. External tools are also available that will do this job for you. • Software Download Via CD-ROM: • These players require a software download via a CD-ROM disc, this is very common on the current generation of players • Remote Hack: • These players require a secret sequence of buttons to be keyed in on the machine or its remote control. This method is used by most budget manufacturers but has become less common on the more prestige brands
