What are the essential cell processes that organelles perform?
Nucleus= Creates energy for the cell in the form of Adenine Tri Phophorate. Nucleolus= Stores RNA for protien synthesis into DNA by reverse transcription. Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum= Synthesizes antibodies to fend off cellular invaders. Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum= Joins with the Plasma Membrane and strengthens it with a tough covering of ribosomes. Ribosomes = Act as cellular “teeth” for phagocytosis. Mitochondria= Hold “back up” DNA and RNA, and act as food for the cell. Golgi Apparatus = The gametes, or sex organs, of the cell, which control and regulate cell division. Lysosomes/Peroxisomes = Serve to help synthesize free oxygen for the cell by breaking down excess cytoplasm. Plasma Membrane = Serves as an “sheild” or shell for the cell to help it resist damage or invasion by virii or other pathogens.
