What are the founding principles of Draplin Design Co?
01. To work for good people on good projects. 02. On terms that don’t make me squirm. 03. All the while keeping things as fun as possible. PB: How did it all begin? AD: This mess began in 1995 simply as an outlet for personal projects, with a good dose of hamming up the “design company startup” phenomena I was witnessed in the industry. I mean, I remember all sorts of folks starting design companies and then, when they would talk about them, there’d be this serious tone and big time business-y words and stuff and it was like, “Hey, it’s just you and a couple other yahoos, man!” So I started my own “company” as a bit of a joke, and look where it got me. PB: What keeps you going? AD: My mortgage. That and feeling incredibly thankful for the work I get to do and get away with it all. Gigantically lucky. PB: Where do you draw inspiration?
