What are the health affects of using medical marijuana?
Mostly, we don’t know. There have been few studies on the long-term health affects of using medicinal marijuana because of the of the stigma and restrictions attached to it. The DEA classifies marijuana as a Schedule I drug, having “no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States,” making it virtually unavailable except for federal researchers. Smoking marijuana could have serious health risks; more studies must be conducted to determine what they may be. To mitigate the risks associated with smoking medical marijuana, many patients choose alternative methods of medication like ingestion foods (brownies, butter) or pills (Marinol).
