What are the inherent advantages/disadvantages of IR vs. RF wireless in industrial or military environments?
a. Power: IR will always use much less power then RF. b. Physical Size: IR will always be much smaller then RF. c. IR is point to point versus 360 degree RF transmission. IR data transmission is less vulnerable to clandestine interception and EMI interference. d. Two higher cost RF enabled devices are needed to communicate with each other, whereas lower cost OFID chips are stand alone active devices that can communicate with any computer that has an IR docking port and is OFID enabled. e. RF can be effected by harmonic distortions (i.e. jamming) triggered by the proximity of other RF devices e.g. a radio, a Blue Tooth PDA, radar, etc. f. Direct sunlight limits IR transmission range. g. RF can go through walls, IR cannot. 6) What are the risks in incorporating IR as compared to RF in environments containing energetic materials (e.g. explosives)? IR presents no known catalytic risks to any current energetic materials. 7) What are the advantages/disadvantages of your product in the facili
