What are the Lightning Data Specifications?
The Lightning layer displays a summary of lightning strikes (cloud-to-ground) over the past hour in 5-minute, 10-minute, 20-minute, and 60-minute intervals. The strike icon does not represent individual strikes, but rather if a strike has occurred in that area. Resolution is 2.2mi. The size of the icon is correlated to the number of strikes detected. White: Lightning detected in the last 5 minutes Yellow: Lightning detected in the last 10 minutes Orange: Lightning detected in the last 20 minutes Blue: Lightning detected in the last 60 minutes Strike icons are displayed in a 150 by 150 mile region from the center of your map (or 300 by 300 mile region in the Commercial Version), and are updated every 2 minutes. Alert radius is 25-miles and 50-miles, respectively. Individual strikes and additional stroke information can be displayed as a custom layer.
