There are several challenges and problems that we have to put up with. Reluctance on the part of the complainants is one of the major ones. Corruption is nothing new; it has been around since time immemorial. People should come forward to lodge complaints against the corrupt. But they seldom do so, because they are scared. We receive several complaints that are lodged anonymously. But, the information most of them provide is sketchy and hence, the investigation becomes a time-consuming one. Another problem we face pertains to inadequate staff strength. There are just 68 investigating officers, in superintendent of police, deputy superintendent of police and inspector cadres, across the state. In the past two years, a record number of cases – more than 1,000 – were registered in the state. We also recorded 269 ‘trap cases’ as against 89 in Orissa, which has a staff strength of 100-plus.
