What are the major efforts made by human beings to restore the Giant panda population?
• Establish nature reserves to protect the Giant panda’s natural habitat. • Pass laws to make the protection of Giant pandas compulsory. • Enforce natural forest protection and ‘grain to green’ project to protect and expand the habitats of Giant pandas. • Create corridors for the fragmented small populations to migrate freely so that a larger group for breeding will be formed, thus creating conditions for gene exchanges and preventing the loss of genetic diversity. • Conduct ex-situ (in captivity) protection and multi-displinary research. • Conduct trials and research to release captive Giant pandas back to natural environment.
