What are the major factors affecting the tourism industry in the Eastern Cape?
We believe that the tourism industry has not reached its full potential in the Eastern Cape. The government’s tourism transformation strategy places an emphasis on developing black-owned businesses within the industry. Phambili’s role is to ensure that communities are encouraged and facilitated to play their part in growing sustainable tourism businesses and to participate in decision-making processes. What opportunities do you see in the sector? The Eastern Cape has its place in South African history. It boasts tertiary institutions that produced world political leaders and icons and was the heartbeat of African nationalism. This creates heritage tourism opportunities that have not been fully exploited.
