What are the most important qualities to be a successful teacher online?
Teaching online is quite different from teaching in a traditional setting, but I feel it can be just as personal if an instructor creates a sense of “community” within the online setting. To me, it’s important for students in an online setting to know you are “present” even though you are not together face-to-face. Online teachers need to check in frequently, post announcements, communicate, and post feedback to students regularly. In addition, the “voice” of an online instructor is equally important in building the community. It’s paramount that online instructors are organized, consistent, and detailed in their course content to provide a positive learning experience for online learners.
