What are the motivations for DMIF?
The main motivations of DMIF are: • To create a framework that separates the multimedia processing aspects from the delivery technology aspects. In this way, multimedia applications can be designed independently of a specific delivery technology. • To enable reusability of multimedia applications in multiple delivery scenarios. • To have a separation between the User plane, which carries the multimedia content, and the Control Plane, which carries the required signaling messages to deliver the multimedia content. • To enable multiple multimedia object-to-object (e.g., ESs in MPEG-4) communications in a single multimedia session. • To enable different quality of service (QOS) requirements for each multimedia object in a multimedia session.
