What are the numbers on the guitar string packs?
Those are the diameter of the strings, also known as the gauge of the string. I’m guessing that you’re stringing up an acoustic, and that would be considered a light guage. Are you sure you have two .042s? That set should have 11-15-22-32-42-52 in it. If not (and it’s a new set), someone screwed up at the factory. Don’t put the set on as it is…something’s wrong. Since you’re asking about gauges, you should know how they relate to string tension. The smaller the diameter, the quicker the string tunes up to pitch and the less tension there is on them, and thus they are easier to press down on the fret board. It’s also easier to play out of tune on a very light gauge set, as you can actually press the string sharp if you’re not careful. On an electric guitar, the larger the string the higher the output from the guitar. A lot of people will say that you need a heavy gauge on your guitar to ge
