What are the objectives and the means with regard to the new priority “sustainable development of fisheries areas”?
The sustainable development of fisheries areas is a new priority theme in the EFF. The aim is to help fisheries dependent areas, which have been hit particularly hard by the shortage of resources and the necessary restructuring of the sector, to regenerate through restoring their competitiveness and creating alternative economic activities.Through a bottom up and decentralised approach, local actors who know best the particularities and the potential of their own area will take the lead and participate in the decision-making and the implementation of the development strategy which best suits their territory. Partnerships of local stakeholders, called “groups” (consisting of local stakeholders, including public and private partners as well as representatives from the civic/ voluntary sector) will be the core actors in this priority.
