What are the origins of carabiner keychains?
Carabiner keychains arrived on the scene around 1995. Carabiner keychains or promotional carabiners are replicas of “real” climbing carabiners. The two main differences are the size and load bearing capacity. Promotional carabiners range in size from around 5mm (mini carabiners) to 8mm (large promotional carabiners) and are typically 1/2 to 2/3 the size of real carabiners. Promotional carabiners are also “no load bearing” and not used for climbing. They function to hold light items such as keys and small tools. They can also be used to hold other lightweight objects.
