Short term effects are usually limited. Minimal reddening or swelling of the area is common and typically lasts less than an hour although occasionally can last for a few days. There can also be increased or decreased pigment in treated areas. (For example, birthmarks and freckles may darken for a few days then return to normal.) There are seldom any major cosmetic problems and effects generally resolve themselves shortly after each treatment. In rare cases blisters and scarring have occurred. Providing up-to-date information on conditions or circumstances which may affect treatment (such as skin cancer, Herpes Simplex, pregnancy, active infection, etc.) will aid in optimizing results.
