What are the risks of Lortab® addiction during pregnancy?
Lortab® should not be taken by expectant mothers – plain and simple. The drug is classified as a Category C substance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration -which means it should only be prescribed when the benefits to the mother clearly outweigh any potential harm to the unborn fetus. When given to pregnant hamsters, a single dose of Lortab® has increased the risk of birth defects, including cranial defects. A state of Michigan Medicaid study suggested a link between pregnant mothers taking hydrocodone (Lortab®’s main ingredient) and increased birth defects – including infant cardiovascular problems.
