What are UNIT and Torchwood?
SA) Organisations to deal with alien threat. LA) Though the overall goal of both is similar they are two separate organisations. UNIT is the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce. An international organisation, predominantly conventional military, with headquartes in Geneva. Though not generally public knowledge, it is not a particularly secretive organisation. UNIT is mobilised as a miltary response to alien incursion. UNIT was in almost every episode of Doctor Who during his exile on Earth in the original series for most of the Third Doctor’s reign, having first appeared with the second. There were a few more UNIT episodes at the beginning of the Fourth Doctor’s reign and then they tailed off. It has appeared a few times in the new series, in Aliens of London/World War Three and spoiler: The Christmas Invasion.
