What Causes a Sore Throat on One Side?
There are numerous factors which might produce a sore throat on one side, including some form of abscess, either on a tonsil or directly on one side of the throat; swollen glands; or inflamed lymph nodes. Vocalizing excessively, through shouting, singing or even speaking can also cause a sore throat on one side. Dental issues, such as an impacted tooth, can be connected to a sore throat on one side as well. When people develop symptoms of a viral infection, such as a cold or other respiratory illness, a sore throat is a common symptom. While there is generally no definitive reason why the soreness may occur on only one side of the throat during an upper respiratory virus, it is not uncommon. Bacterial infections of the throat can be limited to pain on one side as well.
