What Causes Low Self Esteem?
Low self esteem can be caused by several factors. There can be biological or chemical issues such as bipolar disorder. These are serious and might require therapy or medication to treat. A far more common cause is lack of reassurance and positive feedback from authority figures and peers that a person is close to. When a person, particularly a child, does not get the normal support from his parents or guardians he or she can be left questioning his own worth. Other children are notoriously cruel and it’s important for the child to have developed a healthy base of self esteem so that he can cope with adolescent criticism.
