What causes pyorrhea?
The main culprit known to cause pyorrhea is bacterial activity. Studies tell us that a thin coating of harmful bacteria constantly keeps building up in the teeth. If the teeth are not properly cleaned, particularly after eating food, the bacteria quickly form a structural collection on the surface of the teeth in a short span of time. This is known as bacterial plaque and when left untreated results in the production of hazardous toxins that cause inflammation of the gums and makes them tender and cause bleeding. Other factors that cause pyorrhea are injury to the gums, wrong brushing techniques, improper use of toothpicks, prolonged allergy and stagnation of food particles. The use of oral contraceptives and pregnancy can also flare this condition.
