What causes sudden death in dogs?
Think of what may cause this in humans and dogs and most other mammals have similar if not the same causes of sudden death. One of the most common traumatic causes of sudden death these days is being hit by a car. Poisoning and congenital circulatory defects are another way for them to suddenly die. Choking is possible especially for puppies because they are inexperienced with manipulating or swallowing objects. For older dogs, cancer that weakens blood vessels can cause a sudden “bleed out” into the abdominal or chest cavity.
