What could happen if townsite salinity is not fixed?
Salinity is recognised as one of the most urgent environmental threats facing Western Australia. Salinity can affect homes, public buildings, roads and bridges as well as agricultural land. Without rapid intervention around 3 million hectares across WA’s agricultural region will be affected by 2010. It is estimated that up to 40 to 60 towns in WA will eventually experience increased flooding and decay of buildings, roads, bridges and other infrastructure. Parks, waterways and water supplies will also be affected.
