Leonardo of Pisa (1170 – 1250), known popularly today as Fibonacci, was born in Italy and spent most of his life in North Africa. His father was a diplomat and worked on behalf of merchants. His father encouraged Leonardo to learn writing numbers using Hindu-Arabic symbols. At the time, a number writing system as we have now was only in its infancy and there were many different ways to write numbers. His book, “Liber Abbaci”, was published in 1202 and introduced the Hindu-Arabic numerical notation and something we find in mathematics today, the notation for a fraction. Probably his most famous “discovery” was put forth in the third section of his book. In essence, he wants to know, if you put two rabbits in a cage so they are confined only to themselves, how many rabbits will you have in a year (there are more variables given). From this question the famous Fibonacci sequence arose. 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55… In which you add the two previous numbers to get the next number. This
