Cherokee Nation decides on stimulus fund uses By Jami Custer Staff Writer TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Cherokee Nation officials have decided where and how some of the $42.5 million in federal stimulus funds the tribe expects to receive will be spent. Housing Services will receive about $6 million in Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act money for its modernization program, while more than $5.6 million will go to housing rehabilitation. Housing Services Group Leader David Southerland said the focus will be energy efficiency. He said his group has started replacing windows and plans to add insulation, roofs and energy efficient heating and air units in Cherokee family homes. “We are looking at things that will help with the utility bills,” he said. “We will be able to assist over 180 families.” About $215,000 will go to the Housing Authority of the Delaware Tribe. CN receives federal housing funds for the Delawares and is required to pass those funds to the HADT. Southerla
